Hotel and restaurant owners will now be able to serve food in the open in the inner circle of Delhi’s Connaught Place. Those hotels and restaurants which have open space on the ground floor, they will be able to feed the guests by placing tables there. However, there will be a ban on serving liquor.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has prepared a proposal keeping in view the G-20 conference. NDMC has sent the proposal to the Police, Traffic Police and Fire Department for their opinion. Police will soon give opinion on this proposal. NDMC sources say that if this scheme is successful, it will soon be implemented in entire Delhi.
A senior Delhi Police officer told that a proposal has come to the Delhi Police from the Health Licensing Department of NDMC. Under this proposal, hotel and restaurant owners located in the inner circle of Connaught Place will be able to serve food to guests by placing tables in the open space on the ground floor.
However, the hotel and restaurant owner will not be allowed to cover the open space. Hotel and restaurant owners will be able to feed guests in the open only from 9 pm to 1 am. However, serving of liquor will not be allowed. These food courts, built in the open space in front of hotels and restaurants, can be opened three days a week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.
A senior NDMC official said that only serving and feeding of food would be allowed in the open. Cooking will not be allowed in the food court. It has also been said in the proposal that it will be mandatory for hotel and restaurant owners to take permission from police, traffic police and fire department to serve food in the open. The police officer said that the Delhi Police will soon send its opinion to the NDMC on the proposal. Right now this proposal has been prepared for the inner circle of Connaught Place.
